Cats: Damn close - Birds: Lucky Little Feathered Creatures!

Hey! Happy 4th of July weekend!

So, I'm sitting here watching my friend's cat play outside. She's tethered and has a little tag that sort of 'tinkles' so she can't sneak up on the birds completely without warning...but she tries.

She is currently stalking a small bird (I have no idea what it is... I only knows the easy ones. Bald eagles, Cardinals, Blue Jays and the occasional duck or goose!) anyway.... she is on her third try. I have helped the previous prey by knocking loudly on the window so they have a better chance to take off.

She also tends to look away from the bird toward the house so that helps them too. Right now I'm on the laptop and nowhere near the window. She's flattened herself down to about... oh let's say the thickness of your basic roadkill and is stealthily inching ever forward.

The bird hasn't noticed her. As I am about to get up to knock on the windows to warn the bird, she pounces.

Uh-oh.

I am relieved to see the little bird manage to take flight, even if it did lose a small feather! Unfortunately, Lainey-baby almost broke her neck in the process, so I'm thinking it's time to bring her in!

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend!

As an addendum: Lainey's Mom has informed me that getting a feather is the most Lainey's ever gotten in all her years of trying! Way to go Lainey!!

Lainey takes a break.
